Buffalo Lodging Associates and Interior Image Group (IIG), a premier interior hospitality firm, collaborated yet again to completely transform the look and feel of a hotel. Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbus Airport East, formally a Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, completed its full renovation in November 2017 when the brand flags officially changed.
The Columbus hotel not only received modern décor updates throughout, but the overall layout was altered as well. “During our site visit, the first thing we saw when we walked in was a staircase in the middle of the lobby”, said IIG’s Interior Designer Katie Spain. “In order to provide a sense of community and place for guests to be able to easily connect, our first thought was to open up the space completely.”
Before construction could start, a plan had to be developed. “It was one of the best site visits we’ve had as a company” said Pat Tritschler, IIG’s CAD Manager & IT. “Everyone was present to go over the overall concept – the architects, designers, and civil engineers – which made it easier to coordinate everything at once.” While most of IIG’s work includes designing new or newly renovated hotels, handling a conversion was a unique, fun and challenging project. “There was a lot to be coordinated. We were working in tandem with Buffalo Lodging and the brand to ensure the timeline and milestone markers were met”, explained IIG’s President Patti Tritschler. “We engaged with Holiday Inn early on in the project to get their approval, as well as meet our client’s timeline.”
All 95 suites received contemporary décor, furnishings and amenities, including mini fridges and microwaves. IIG collaborated with Holiday Inn to come up with a design that met brand standards but also added a touch of their own personalization. “When we walked in the guest room for our initial site visit, we noticed the room was very dark and dated”, said Katie. “In order to combat this, we brightened it up and added customized fabric to give the room a more elevated and youthful feel.”
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Columbus Airport East, conveniently located 5 miles from John Glenn Columbus International Airport, offers free airport shuttle, a complimentary Express Start breakfast served daily, free Wi-Fi and parking, an indoor heated pool, hot tub and state-of-the-art fitness center. The newly renovated meeting room can hold up to 50 people comfortably.
