Julio Velez, General Manager at Residence Inn Rochester Henrietta, was named General Manager of the Year by Marriott. He was selected from over 700 Residence Inn hotels globally based on the nominations Marriott received.
Julio, who has worked with Marriott hotels since 1993, has been a Residence Inn General Manager for over nine years.
Residence Inn Rochester Henrietta, an all-house hotel in Rochester, NY, recently finished a complete renovation. The Generation 1 pods were completely demolished in order to make room for a new tower which was built shortly after. The new tower was then connected to an existing tower that underwent renovations, as well as a newly built gatehouse. This entire process took approximately two years.
On top of working around construction, Julio ensured guests knew where to go at all times and constantly greeted them with a friendly smile or conversation. His presence on property and during sales calls with the Director of Sales, built strong relationships with guests and clients. He also offered a helping hand to his staff whenever possible, whether he was assisting with breakfast or being a friendly face at the front desk.
Since the property was receiving new furniture during the renovation, Julio orchestrated a donation to Volunteers of American, who work with Habitat for Humanity. School #12 in Rochester, NY also receives donations from the hotel annually, including hats, mittens and books.
Residence Inn by Marriott is an extended stay brand that offers suites with 50% more space than traditional hotel rooms and fully equipped kitchens, complimentary breakfast and the Residence Inn Mix which includes light fare and drinks on select weeknights.
